In an article published in the Sanford Herald on 6/19, KMI International Founder, CEO, and Chairman John Manning writes about how adequately prepping ahead of hurricane season will help speed up the eventual recovery from these powerful storms. As a construction consultancy company, KMI International engages in drone documentation services and property condition assessment (PCA) to help client properties understand where weaknesses might turn into liabilities when a hurricane strikes.

“Potential sea-level rise is as important as the fortitude of any nearby breakwaters and the potential of water to topple any such barriers,” Manning writes. “Knowing where any possible frailties exist in water containment assures better preparedness ahead of hurricane season.”

Manning says that KMI’s recovery plan entails reconstruction and construction repair estimates as well as liaising with insurance companies. And because water inundation provides an environment for microorganisms to thrive, he also advises having a plan in place to deal with water damage. Manning also states that important documents such as blueprints and legal documents should be stored offsite and digital copies maintained in a secure location to aid in the disaster-recovery process later.

“It might be scary to contemplate how a monster storm like a hurricane could affect your business, but preplanning and preparation are critical for recovery in the case of weather events,” Manning writes. “Having a disaster plan in place before the storm strikes will make the post-event recovery process much easier, safer, and faster to get your operations back up and running quickly and safely.”
